While it might be obvious to encourage self-compassion with your patients, it can often be a forgotten practice with yourself. Self-compassion is being kind and understanding with ourselves when aspects of our lives are painful and we’re feeling disheartened.
Self-compassion yields several benefits, including lower levels of anxiety and depression, increased motivation enhances self-worth, and fosters resilience.
Here are 4 ways to Practice Self-Compassion:
Consider how less is more. Reduce your intake of food and thoughts that deplete your energy and leave you feeling lethargic
Add something joyful to your daily routine. Take several breaks during the day to do something that lifts your heart.
Rest your body and mind. Turn off all electronic devices 30 minutes before going to bed to let your inner thoughts quiet down.
Engage in nature. Take a slow walk around your neighborhood or park. Take time to meditate on the good in your life.
